Well-known
playwright James M. Barrie (Johnny Depp) finds his career at a
crossroads when his latest play flops and doubters question his
future. Then by chance he meets a widow (Kate Winslet) and her
four adventurous boys. Together they form a friendship that
ignites the imagination needed to produce Barrie's
greatest work, Peter Pan.

QUOTES FROM JOHNNY DEPP
"In
life there are many good and bad things that happen to us but
there are very few of us that overcome adversity and are inspired
by it to write a story, like Barrie
did. At the end of filming [Finding Neverland] I cried. I was
overcome with emotion when we finished working because I
understood that imagination and fantasy are essential in a
consumerist and insensitive world like this one. What's truly
important today is creativity. This is one answer to the violence
that rules in our world. Faced with the horrible scenes and
situations that we must live through, you have to remember to open
yourself to hope. You have to close your eyes and believe. In the
end, things will change."
Johnny Depp, Cinemania
Magazine (Argentina),
January 2005

During filming, on his second day on the set,
Dustin Hoffman lost the tip of a finger in an accident when
a folding chair collapsed and dropped him to the floor.
Doctors were unable to reattach the finger tip. To manage
the pain, Hoffman performed one day of shooting on morphine.
In one scene, he keeps his hand in his pocket to hide the
bandages.

"I thought
it was a beautiful story and it was interesting the way he came up
with the idea for Peter Pan - although we see titbits of
information that inspired it, and there was always some
speculation about Barrie that maybe there was some kind of
pedophilia going on, which I actually don't think there was. What
I do believe is he was an incredibly dark figure, really depressed
... morose."
Johnny
Depp, Daily Record, July
11, 2003
"The accent didn't come easily to me
because, although it's musical, and I've trained as a musician and
have a pretty good ear, it just didn't register at first. I don't
think there are any recordings of Barrie in
existence, so that didn't help.
Johnny Depp, The
Telegraph, October 2004
"The clothes
certainly helped with the character.
Barrie was
not a social animal. There were just a handful of adults he felt
comfortable around. So those suits and tight collars added to his
uncomfortable nature. He was a stiff guy. But, when he got around
kids, he felt he was on the same level as some of
them."
Johnny Depp, The Telegraph, October
2004
"It was such a shock, to get the news
that I'd been nominated [for an Oscar]. My first reaction
was 'Why?' On one level I was flattered; but it's not what I'm
working for. And when I didn't win the Thing -- oh, I was
ecstatic. Absolutely ecstatic. I applauded the lucky winner [Sean
Penn] and said, 'Thank God!' "
Johnny Depp, Rolling
Stone, April
2005
QUOTES FROM
OTHERS
"The
first person we always envisioned was Johnny Depp and I am so glad
that he accepted the part and wanted to do it. He has this special
special quality of being a brilliant actor and also being an actor
that just always picks parts that he is passionate about”
Marc
Foster, EInsiders.com, October 2004

During the formal dinner scene, Johnny Depp
placed a "fart machine" under Julie Christie's chair. He had
a remote control that he used to trigger a fart sound from
the device. The children are laughing more at that than from
playing with the
spoons.

"I believe
very much in silences and quiet moments." He admitted. "I think
that so much stuff is over-written these days. And I think that
silences speak much stronger to us than dialogue often. A look and
an expression can mean much more than explaining something. Johnny
Depp has the same notion. He likes to say less because he also
feels that it is more powerful."
Marc Foster,
EInsiders.com, October 2004
"[Johnny
Depp] doesn’t carry around any sort of weird star concepts
about himself. And at the same time, there’s something kind of
mythical and magical about him. I think he brings that to all of
his performances."
Radha Mitchell, About.com,
